Growing A Staple Garden
Share
I recently came across a homesteader channel that talked about the idea of growing a staple garden. I loved the way the idea lended words to a method of gardening that could be beneficial those of use who seek to grow a garden that would provide us for food throughout the year.
A staple garden is just that, a garden that provides staple ingredients we use from a day to day basis.
Step back and look at the ingredients you frequent.
For my household, things like garlic, onions, tomato sauce, and various vegetables, such as green beans, corn, black beans, broccoli etc, fruits, such as strawberries, raspberries, blueberries.
When you're able to step back and note the ingredients that you use often you can begin planning your garden around them.
This type of garden planning will leave you feeling empowered as you are able to utilize things from your previous harvest.
Nobody feels good about letting precious hard earned food go to waste.
I know that when I have a bounty of homegrown tomato sauce on my shelves that I have the sense of satisfaction that only those who have done this before can relate.
Yes, it is fun to grow things that grab your attention, or that you want to try. And that is something I recommend you do. But, nowadays, it is so liberating to be the only hands that have touched the food you've grown, harvested, processed, prepared and served to your family.
There's something truly special about sitting down for a meal as a family and admiring and giving thanks to God over the food you grew.
